One of the biggest advantages of collaborating with PDF files is having the same set of familiar tools as you would when performing paper-based reviewing. Sticky notes, highlighting, drawings and attachments can all be added to pages much the same way, but doing it electronically helps you speed up group-based reviewing and more easily keep track of everyone’s comments.
Best of all, when reviewing files electronically, you're not limited to collaborating with only Nitro PDF Professional users — your comments will look and work the same in Adobe® Acrobat® and Adobe Reader®, meaning you can view comments from Acrobat and Reader users, and they can view yours.
In Nitro PDF Professional, comments can be added as sticky notes, text highlighting, text boxes, call outs, drawing markups, stamps, and file attachments. Most annotation types include a pop-up note, enabling you to add additional feedback, explanatory text, or other information. For example, if you have highlighted a selection of text, you can simply double-click to open the associated pop-up note and enter your comments.
Tools to markup and annotate PDF files |
| Sticky notes Similar to their paper counterparts, PDF sticky notes can be placed anywhere on your PDF pages, and be moved around or minimized so they don't get in the way of reading. |
| Highlight PDF text The text highlighting tools enable you to highlight text in PDF files the same way you would on paper. With these pen-like tools, you can highlight, underline and cross out text, while optionally adding text feedback in the comment's associated pop-up note. |
| Text boxes and call outs The Text Box and Call Out annotation tools allow you to add text that appears in an exact location on the page, in line with page content. In addition, the Call Out annotation has an attached arrow that can be adjusted to point to a specific location on the page. |
| Drawing shapes The pre-defined set of shapes (line, arrow, rectangle, oval, polygon, polygon line and cloud) let you quickly call attention to certain sections of text or graphics in any area of the page. |
| Freehand pencil Pencil and Eraser tools work exactly like they would with paper, allowing you to freely draw onto the page, as well as erase previous marks. |
| Stamps PDF stamps allow you to add highly visible graphics to the page with standard text such as 'Draft,' 'Final,' and 'Approved'. You can create custom stamps using your own graphics to convey the desired message. |
| Attach files Just like attaching one document to another with a paperclip, you can easily attach and embed any type of electronic file inside your PDF documents. Users who open your PDF files can then save and open the attached files on their computer. |

With Nitro PDF Pro, you can effortlessly administer your electronic document review cycles through easy-to-use comment management tools. Unlike paper-based reviews, Nitro Pro makes it simple for you to quickly and accurately consolidate and summarize comments from everyone on the team, allowing you to view the feedback alongside the page content as PDF, or print the summary to review comments on paper.
Using the intuitive Comments List panel, you can review, sort, and organize comments from multiple reviewers in one place, grouping them in the way that makes the most sense to you. You can also respond to individual comments, and view an entire thread of responses, making it easy to stay on top of every discussion.
