The pages pane is the part of a PDF viewer application that shows thumbnails of each page in the document, and usually appears on the left-hand side of the application window. The pages pane is useful for navigating through the PDF file, seeing which pages in the document use different paper sizes or orientations, organizing and rearranging pages and so on. By setting the workspace preferences of a given PDF file, you can even force the pages pane to open when the PDF document is opened.
