In order to ensure accurate display on different computers with potentially different sets of installed fonts, PDFs often need to include font data for the text they contain. A font has been embedded and subset when a partial copy of the original font file has been saved as part of the PDF, where the partial copy only includes only data for characters actually used in the document.

Embedding and subsetting fonts is the most efficient way of guaranteeing that a document will display and print correctly on all computers. The downside is that text set in an embedded-and-subset font cannot be edited.

Nitro PDF Professional offers you control over how fonts are included in both existing and newly-created PDF documents - save space by subsetting embedded fonts, or make sure fonts are embedded whole to ensure your PDF files remain editable.
