Founded in 1997 by Karl De Abrew (now CEO of Debenu) with only a handful of employees, the company now known as Nitro PDF Software spans four continents and has offices and supporting operations in the USA, Australia, Europe and China.

The company has grown both organically and through acquisitions and achieved renown in 2005 when it launched the world's first true alternative to Adobe Acrobat - Nitro PDF Professional.

Nitro PDF Software has been at the heart of the PDF community for 10 years — as a software developer (through Nitro PDF Software and ARTS PDF), software marketer and distributor (through PDF Store), media and resource portal (through Planet PDF), professional services supplier; and as a major sponsor and PDF program track coordinator for events including Seybold San Francisco, Seybold New York, Seybold Amsterdam, PDF Conference, and Adobe® Acrobat® & PDF Conference.

Name changes

Please note: The company consolidated its branding in June 2007.
Nitro PDF Software is now the group brand name, in addition to being the name of group's software business unit
(formerly known as ARTS PDF). ARTS PDF is now a division of Nitro PDF Software.
